Blaugust 2025

2025 August 01
Current Mood: Tired, but mostly relieved
Now Playing: Золотые Зубы - Горизонт

I've spent these last two weeks working mostly on the apartment stuff:

  • Did flooring in our living room (it was just bare concrete before that) — took me four days, no more flooring ever.... x__x"
  • Assembling an ikea couch — I finally have a couch, for the first time since 2015...
  • Assembling some other heavy ikea furniture — hopefully we won't need to spend really bad amounts of money on furniture for a while now. Also, people really don't talk enough about how often ikea furniture requires blood sacrifice during its assembly -__-"

Me and ray finally started working properly on our next game, until all the apartment stuff started. But the intention and motivation are there! Our switch from Unity to Godot is going smooth so far — I'm really enjoying how a lot of the stuff we relied on in Unity is already there in Godot, not without some issues, but so far it's been fun to solve them. Also the process of web searching to solve a Godot issue feels much better to me than when I did it with Unity — partly because often it leads to the Godot github repository, where I can not only read the whole conversation with the devs on the issue, but see the actual progress on it.

I'm also back with tweaking my private Ragnarok Online server. We have Rachel and Veins now! If you are into playing ancient MMOs with nice (queer) modifications and a really small player base — check it out!

I started reading HOMESTUCK for the first time ever last week, and I'm already at Act 5 and loving it, except for the weird racist comedy bits aimed almost exclusively at famous Black Americans that don't seem to stop any time soon? And casual ableist slurs that I was assured do end at some point. It's funny to think about myself noting down the problematics of Homestuck and the US Internet culture of 2009 in 2025, but hey, I'm new to this thing :)

Here I'm breaking the post structure of every paragraph being about a separate thing in my life and continue talking about Homestuck

I think reading Homestuck now is in some way radicalizing me in terms of how I want to approach my video games. Looking at how The Unnoficial Homestuck Collection preserves every bit of media that was used in the web comic, no matter if they have the legal rights to use it, just to provide the full context for the reader feels very inspiring to me, especially nowadays, when the Internet crumbles over the more and more aggressive restrictions. And, of course, the unhinged narrative structure is another big source of inspiration. I really don't understand the opinions about how incomprehensible Homestuck is — it's such a joyful play with the form that was really trying to get to the limits of the Internet media capabilities of that time. And it's not all that absurd — the characters' stories are all pretty stable (so far), no matter what big twist happens. Especially with the foreshadowing that in Homestuck takes some epic proportions.

Anyway! it's Blaugust 2025 time! I'm not really participating in the actual official thing, but it's so nice to have an Inktober for blogging that people around me are participating in. I should have some nice stuff to post during the month of August (including some new photography, finally!), so I'm looking forward to try to post excessively, if only for one month! ^__^
