A digital collage featuring an antropomorphic corvid bird with silver hair wearing an emerald green blouse, a cut out photo of an old crt tv and a Sega Mega Drive 2 gaming console. In the background there is a screenshot of the special stage from the video game Sonic the Hedgehog (1991).
An announcement poster made by rayzones for one of my last year's streams where I played the infamous slowed down bootleg PAL version of Sonic the Hedgehog on my old Sega Mega Drive 2 and my parents' old CRT TV while streaming it via a cheap TV tuner.

Yesterday I finally tested my new streaming setup on Fedora. Visually it's almost the same as it was last year, but without some handy macOS tools like Loopback, where I could arrange some cool elaborate audio capture settings, the new setup feels worse. At least for now.

I've spent some unreasonable time porting to Linux my PNGTube program that I made in Godot 3, and I still have some Fedora-specific (or, rather PlasmaKDE-specific) stuff to figure out — mainly, the visible window borders that were not present in my macOS build.

The biggest benefit of switching to Linux for streaming is better performance (less CPU consumption and most likely lower CPU temperatures), but also, finally, the ability to capture windows in OBS! It turned out, during yesterday's testing, that my laptop is still not capable of streaming GameCube games (weirdly, Dolphin kept freezing the moment I started capturing the window on stream), but still good enough to play older stuff, like Mega Drive games. I played a bit of Ristar yesterday, and it was a fun time :)

I'm not sure how often I will stream games with emulators, though. Definitely have some very interesting rom hacks planned, but other than that — we'll see. I'm probably more interested in whether I can play old PC games with my new Linux setup 👀

And maybe, when I get a new laptop, I will finally be able to do dev streams — a thing I wanted to do for a long time already, inspired by MattKC.

Other than that, I should be able to stream any other game with my video capture card, so look forward to me continuing my playthrough of The Longest Journey sometime next week!

With cohost being not around anymore I will probably have to start announcing streams on mastodon and bluesky, but you can also subscribe to my twitch channel and receive notifications automatically, if you are interested. Unfortunately, I can't do streams on a solid schedule, so I will have to announce them on a short notice every time :(
