My First Session (Skate Sim) video

2026 March 29
Current Mood: stressed out because my gambit with the new 4G router is not working as expected and I'm constantly losing internet connection now
Now Playing: Blumenfantasie by Xylitol

A couple of weeks ago I finally bought Session: Skate Sim, while it was on sale. It works well with CrossOver on macOS devices with Apple Silicon chips (which was a great relief for me). Previously I only played the game in its early access state on Xbox and couldn't get into the game's complicated controls, but after watching a couple of videos about the recent patch that reworked some of the core mechanics of the game, and also after learning that the Paris map DLC had one of my favourite skate spots in the whole world, I got excited about Session again.

My favourite Paris spot, as seen in "I'll be there in five" skate video by VUM.

My initial creative goal with Session was to start making nice short skate videos at interesting spots that I would come up with, because the replay editor in the game is so extensive and some of the videos I saw on youtube look so great. BUT. I just can't get the hang of it! For some reason I was expecting something similar to Skate 3 or Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, but in my opinion the menu controls in Session are much more complicated. I haven't looked into any online tutorials though, and I bet I can get into it after some learning, but so far here's what I've managed to film in the game — a cool hippie kickflip over a chain in Paris, inspired by the recent Andy Anderson video:

Oh, and then it was unfortunately not easy to record this video. For some reason I thought when I saved replay in Session, it saved my edited replay as a video file on my computer, but that turned out to be false. Then I tried to record a video with Steam, but it turned out that Steam in CrossOver just can't do that. So I had to open OBS and record the game with it, which is an okay alternative, but I wish I could do game recording without setting up a whole custom OBS scene for that...

I might switch to game photography for now though, just like I did with Skate 3 in my cohost era (I still need to repost those photos to my blog), so maybe expect to see some of that in the future :)
