[Lego MOC] Red Bunny Mech

Last Sunday I spent the whole evening (deep into the night) trying to make sense of a couple new cheap lego sets I got from Bricklink. I was browsing through parts of lego history I would never look into (Star Wars) when I saw a whole collection of ridiculous action figures with heads of movie characters I had no idea about, and they looked so funny with their human heads attached to Technic skeletons that I started thinking: what if I was missing out on the New Generation Galidor here?

Spoiler: I wasn't... I was lucky to find a couple of very cheap sealed sets, including this fantastic looking character. When the sets arrived and it was time to assemble them to check if the could live up to the Galidor fame, I was mostly disappointed. The skeleton parts they were made of were huge (for Toa Nuva and Slizer standards) and had super weird joint restrictors on them, so their arms and legs barely moved. I still learned a couple of new tricks from those sets' assembly, but by the time I was done with them, the sets were so far from being Galidor-funny... I also still can't believe there supposed to be some pre-defined audience for these action figures.. Probably not even kids, but Adult Star Wars fans placing these abominations on their cool collector shelves...

Yeah, so.. Next day after disassembling all those skeletons and armor shells into separate ziplock bags (this was probably how Toa Metru haters felt...) it was time to figure out something I could build with my lego system stash and the parts from those Star Wars characters. It started nicely! First, I decided to go with red-black color palette, but very quickly ran out of parts to keep the symmetry going, so I also added white into the mix. I made a pair of cool "shoes", with heels even, but using the Hero Factory skeleton (as it turned out, that was the origin of the Star Wars Buildable Figures parts) meant my model would turn out to be too big for my lego system stash, so I had to prioritize finishing it at all, and ended up with something less pretty than I could have if the scale was smaller. The final step was using whatever the big red parts were left for the head, which ended up looking kinda like a cartoonish bunny?

Next day I also spent too much time trying to capture a moc this big with a camera lens focus range this limited, and, in the end — I'm not happy with how it looks in photos! But at the same time I think that's the best I could do at the moment using only natural lighting -__-

Still, I think I should post even less cooler looking builds, as they all are a part of my creative and learning process. Maybe one day I will make something as cool as what djok makes. Or maybe even will pick up actual sculpting, who knows.
