I Might Start Collecting These Hiking Stamps

This week me and my partner went to Bad Harzburg to ride yet another cable car to the top of yet another mountain. This one felt like a hill to me (only 483 meters) and reminded me (a bit) of my hometown landscape. I will make a photo post from this trip later, but first I wanted to share this one cool thing the Harz region has going on: hiking stamps. This is probably a very common tourist activity around the world (I saw stamp posts at various Japanese railway stations on youtube previously), but this was the first time I could check it out myself.

A photo of a green wooden box that is bolted to a dooden fence with a yellow plaque saying "Harzer Wandernadel", "Stempelstelle 121 Aussichtsreich Bad Harzburg", "Stempel kein Souvenir"

A photo of an opened green woden box with the inside decorated with several stickers, with a wooden stamp and a black plastic ink sponge box inside.
Opening this wooden stamp box for the first time honestly felt exciting.

There are 200+ of these green stamp posts according to the official website all over the mountains region, and I've found two of the easiest ones — both in the vicinity of BurgBergBahn.

The stamping process didn't go as smoothly as I expected...

As you can see, one of the stamp posts' ink sponges has already been dry (two of my attempts were also upside down x__x), so I didn't get a nice clean stamp image in my notebook. I guess I will have to buy my own sponge and travel with it!

Another thing I realised at the second stamp post was that all of the Harz Wandernadel stamps most likely have the same design, which kinda disappointed me, but not enough to stop me from planning my next trip to a new stamp post sometime in the future :)
